 		BSA COMPETITION HISTORY

Since the closing down of BSA's competitions department in 1972, the memory of just what had been achieved by this once-great British company has become blurred and blunted by the passage of time. Indeed, there are even some people today who have come to believe that BSA achieved little in this area. The truth is very different. No other British motorcycle manufacturer produced a greater variety of models and achieved the same degree of success for so long. The author has gone to great lengths to bring home this forceful fact, and in so doing, leads the reader to the inevitable conclusion that collectively in trials, scrambles, motocross and road racing, BSA was one of the most successful in world motorcycle sport. In British events alone, BSA riders won no less than 60 national titles. This fact itself is indicative of the profound scale of BSA competition successes which this history places on record. First published in 1986, this authoritative and highly regarded work is now reissued to satisfy on-going demand. Norman Vanhouse, born in 1916, spent 35 years of his working life in the motorcycle industry, employed in experimental and competitions departments before joining BSA in 1952 as a sales representative. He enjoyed a successful competitions career winning more than 150 awards, including ISDT gold medals. He lives in Moseley, Birmingham. 7¼ X 10”
